Liverpool transfer news amid new Trent Alexander-Arnold plan as Omar Marmoush shortlisted - Liverpool.com

January is fast approaching, and while some clubs will be looking at making some new signings in the transfer window, Liverpool will likely be focusing on just keeping their current players.

Arne Slot has of course made a sensational start as head coach, but there are some huge matters that need addressing off the pitch. The futures of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah remain undecided, with all three set to be out of contract at the end of the season.

The trio will be able to negotiate pre-contract agreements in the New Year, although reports in Spain are suggesting that there could be a new plan in place for Alexander-Arnold.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, including details of Real Madrid's plan, plus potential competition for Omar Marmoush.

Real Madrid is looking at signing Trent Alexander-Arnold in January as a matter of urgency, according to Spanish outlet Marca. Although he is set to be available for free in the summer, Los Blancos are said to be looking at bringing him to the Bernabeu earlier.

It’s claimed that Real believes Alexander-Arnold’s arrival would bring some much-needed balance, with Lucas Vasquez the only option they have at right-back at the moment. Liverpool though has no intention of entertaining a sale midway through the season.

The new Liverpool home shirt for the 2024/2025 season features a chrome yellow pattern design and is a modern take on the legendary '84 home shirt - a season which saw the Reds become European Champions for the fourth time in Rome and the first English Club to win a treble of major honours. Liverpool.com says: There’s surely no way Liverpool would let Alexander-Arnold leave in January. Then again, if it’s clear by that point that he’s not going to sign a new deal, and Real Madrid is willing, could you blame the Reds if they did decide to offload?

We’d be hugely surprised if that did happen, although you really can’t shake the uneasy feeling that we’re watching the last months of Alexander-Arnold in a Liverpool shirt. The longer time goes on, the more likely it seems that he’ll be heading to the Bernabeu.

Bayern Munich could provide some competition to Liverpool for Omar Marmoush’s signature, according to Bild’s Christian Falk. The German giant is said to have put the Eintracht Frankfurt star on a list of strikers it’s targeting as it aims to provide some backup to Harry Kane.

Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko and Lois Openda are also listed, with all four names having been linked with Liverpool previously. The Reds are only described as competition for Marmoush though.

Liverpool.com says: Given the form Gyokeres has been in, you’d hope Liverpool might also be in the running for him. Nevertheless, Marmoush is a name that seems to be getting linked with the Reds more and more, so it’ll be interesting to see what he does next summer.
