RISING SUN – Katelyn Troxel is the newest exhibitor at the Rising Sun/Ohio County Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings at the Visitors Center at 217 N. High St.

Troxel will be a seventh grader at Ohio County Elementary Middle School when school begins in the fall and has had dreams of being her own entrepreneur. She is getting the opportunity to make that vision a reality as she sets up her stand of homemade crafts.

Katelyn is the daughter of Brandon and April Troxel and has been quite the "crafter" before she was even in preschool, according to her mom.

"When other kids her age were playing with dolls, she was painting, doing puzzles and scrapbooking," said April, her mother. "She's only had a few lessons and the rest have been self-taught and watching a lot of YouTube videos."

Her interest started when her great-grandpa bought her a sewing machine and she really liked working with it. Then as her interest for crafting grew, she purchased an embroidery machine from Regina Shanks from Window Stitchery by Regina, and then started working with a laser engraver. When asked if she had a future purchase to add to her collection, she grinned from ear to ear and said, "I want to get a Cricut."

Katelyn set up at the Farmer's Market for the first time on June 3 and was excited to display her handmade items of bracelets, wristlets, decorative pillows, hats, scrunchies, doggie scarves, earrings, keychains and more.

Besides her interest in crafts, Katelyn thinks she may become a first-grade teacher as a career after becoming inspired by helping Judy Potts with her cadet training in her first-grade class at Ohio County Elementary School.

"I helped the students get caught up on homework and with their Scholastic News," said Katelyn.

The Farmer's Market is open on Saturdays at the Visitors Center and on Sundays at the corner on Main and Poplar streets in Rising Sun. Community members bring a variety of homemade crafts, foods, soaps, flowers and will be bringing fresh vegetables as they become available.
