Liverpool transfer news as player 'better than Cristiano Ronaldo' and Virgil van Dijk heir eyed - Liverpool.com

It’s been a sensational start to the season for Liverpool under Arne Slot, although the Reds still have some big issues to resolve as January draws near.

Sunday’s draw at Arsenal means Liverpool sits just a point behind Premier League leaders Manchester City – a position few would have expected before the start of the season. Goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah secured what could prove to be an important point in the title race.

Both players, alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold, still need to sort out their futures though, with their contracts set to expire at the end of the season. Once the January transfer window opens, they’ll be able to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs, meaning the race is on for Liverpool.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, including a potential replacement for Van Dijk, as well a player being compared to one of the greatest ever.

Liverpool and Arsenal are looking into the possibility of signing Juventus forward Kenan Yildiz, according to CaughtOffside. The 19-year-old is already making a name for himself, having scored twice at the weekend to rescue a point for his club in a thrilling 4-4 draw at Inter Milan.

Not only that, but Turkey U19 coach Soykan Baskar has suggested he could be even better than one of the greatest players ever. “Yildiz is more talented than Cristiano Ronaldo. His technique with the ball is superior to that of Portuguese,” he said (via JuveFC).

The new Liverpool home shirt for the 2024/2025 season features a chrome yellow pattern design and is a modern take on the legendary '84 home shirt - a season which saw the Reds become European Champions for the fourth time in Rome and the first English Club to win a treble of major honours. Liverpool.com says: No pressure Kenan, but that is one hell of a claim to make for a player who’s still a teenager. Yildiz will certainly have plenty of eyes on him, though, after that performance at the weekend.

It will be interesting to see whether Yildiz gets more chances at Juve now and whether he can kick on from those two goals. If he can, he’s certainly someone to keep an eye out for in the future.

Liverpool is ‘seriously’ considering a move for Nottingham Forest defender Murillo, according to TEAMtalk. It’s claimed that the Reds have drawn up a shortlist of targets amid the uncertainty over Virgil van Dijk’s future, with the Brazilian set to be monitored closely for the remainder of the season.

Sporting CP star Goncalo Inacio and Sevilla’s Loic Bade are also said to be on Liverpool’s list. Murillo is also of interest to Chelsea, although the Blues may have other areas to sort out before looking at a new defender.

Liverpool.com says: Murillo is a name that has been linked with Liverpool for a while now, and he does seem to have stepped up another level this season at Forest. He boasts a clean sheet against the Reds this season, which no other team can, so he can certainly expect plenty of interest in the next year or so.
