College football transfer portal: Ex-UNLV QB Matthew Sluka ranks No. 2 among all prospects in latest rankings - CBSSports.com
Former UNLV quarterback Matthew Sluka ranks as the No. 2 overall player and the top-ranked quarterback in the 247Sports Transfer Portal Rankings for 2025, which are live weeks ahead of its Dec. 9 official opening. The rankings are subject to daily change. Players who have declared their intent to transfer are rated by 247Sports in their portal system even if they have not officially appeared in the transfer portal.
Sluka transferred into UNLV from Holy Cross over the offseason and left UNLV last month with intentions of entering the transfer portal over "certain representations" that were made to him when picking his college destination.
In three games with UNLV, Sluka threw for 318 yards and six touchdowns and added another dynamic as a runner, posting 253 yards rushing and a touchdown. In his career at Holy Cross, Sluka threw for nearly 6,000 yards and 59 touchdowns and added 3,579 yards on the ground with 38 rushing touchdowns.
Here is Sluka's scouting report from National Recruiting Analyst Cooper Petagna:
Big framed passer at 6-foot-3 and 215-pounds that adds some athleticism in the run game as well as being able to extend plays in and outside the pocket. Has never completed more than 61.9% of his passing attempts in a single season and is best defined as streaky as a passer. Projects as a Power Four starter at a Top-25 to Top-40 program with the ability to excel in the right play calling environment.
Sluka was replaced by Campbell transfer Hajj-Malik Williams, who has started the last five games for UNLV. Williams threw for 179 yards and two touchdowns and ran 105 yards rushing and a touchdown in UNLV's most recent outing against Boise State last week. Williams has totaled 1,017 yards passing and 12 touchdowns.
